The UWNDP would like to invite you all to a discussion group and picnic on Canada’s colonial past, the future of Canada’s commitments to assisting MMIWG2S+, and how we, as progressive citizens, can be partners in reconciliation. Seven years ago, the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls released its final report detailing 231 ways the federal government could address the “epidemic” of gravely severe harm experienced by Indigenous women and gender diverse communities. Very little of this report was enacted, and today, partly because of our government’s recent austerity program, we stand on the precipice of backsliding on our commitments to Indigenous rights. There are 4 readings listed in our RSVP form, out of which two have been prioritized. Even if you are unable to read any of these pieces, please do feel free to show up anyways, contribute to the conversation and enjoy a nice summertime picnic!
