Interested in mathematics, physics and philosophy? Come join us on Feb. 3, where Prof. Doreen Fraser will discuss why mathematics is the language of nature! "Physicist Eugene Wigner famously declared that applied mathematics is “a wonderful gift which we neither understand nor deserve.” Proposed explanations for our successful use of mathematics in science have ranged from the mystical to the theological to the pragmatic. We will survey some of these explanations and assess whether applied mathematics can be given a rational explanation or whether it remains mysterious." 📅 Wednesday, February 3rd 🕔 11:30 - 12:30 AM 📍PHY 308 Hope to see you there!!! 🌟
