QUANTUM CLUB DR. TRAVIS CRADDOCK Quantum Biology and Neurobiology Quantum biology examines biological chemistry and function through the lens of quantum phenomena. As experimental and theoretical tools improve, the field is rapidly expanding our ability to probe mechanisms operating at molecular and even subatomic scales. Quantum neurobiology applies these ideas to the nervous system, asking how brain cells might leverage quantum-level processes in ways that complement, and potentially extend beyond, classical descriptions based on electrical excitability and neurotransmitter signaling. If validated, this perspective could enable new diagnostic strategies and therapies for neurological and psychiatric disorders, while also reshaping how we think about cognition, behaviour, and possibly consciousness. In this presentation quantum biology will be broadly outlined, summarizing the current landscape of quantum neurobiology, and consider how these frameworks could be used to develop new approaches for brain disorders with strong neuroinflammatory components, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
